Simpson Wreford & Co raises over £4,000 for children’s charity The S.A.M. Fund
Black tie and ball gowns were the order of the day for our Grand Charity Ball held in The North Stand Suite at Charlton Athletic Football Club on 8 July.
Guests were greeted to a buck’s fizz reception followed by a lovely 3 course meal. Entertainment was provided by Dave Bonsall, International Close-up magician and Faze 3, a fantastic 3 piece party band.
After dinner, our Senior Partner, Ken Saunders said a few words before starting the raffle, where supporters had the chance to win prizes including a deluxe makeover experience for two, a meal for two at the Marriott, Bexleyheath and a vintage bottle of single malt Whisky.
Later in the evening our guests took part in an auction, conducted by Ryan Taylor which included a Sir Geoff Hurst Greatest England XI Display Framed & Signed, an Off-road Hummer experience and a surprise last minute entry by one of the guests - use of a box at Charlton for 8 people including Champagne reception, before and after drinks, hot and cold buffet and a photo with the man of the match. This last auction lot alone raised £580!
After the auction Marian Mildenberger, secretary of The S.A.M. Fund told the guests about the work of the Charity and how it helps families and their children. As Marian was about to sit back at her table, Carl Graham astounded her by passing over a large cheque for £3,694. This was the total amount raised by Simpson Wreford & Co so far this year, including our Charity Karting Night, profits from the office tuck shop and the amounts raised on the night of the Grand Charity Ball with the raffle and auction.
The band played on and everyone filled the dance floor enjoying themselves into the night.
Paul Hills, who was in charge of organising the event said: “It was a fantastic evening, that surpassed my wildest dreams. The food was great, the entertainment was brilliant and everyone seemed to have such an enjoyable evening”
“I’d like to thank all those who helped to make the Grand Charity Ball the event that we all enjoyed so much, the staff members of Simpson Wreford & Co who helped to get everything ready for the evening and those who helped out during the event to ensure everything ran smoothly, also all the guests for being so generous in buying tickets, entering the raffle and bidding on auction lots, and not forgetting all the individuals and businesses who supported us by donating items, thank you everyone.”
Since the night, further donations have been received, taking the total raised to over £4,000.
The organisers would also like to thank Peter Kearns, photographer, for stepping in to save the day and taking some great photos, after the original photographer failed to turn up

Also we have organised a seminar series for the first half of the year which we hope you will find useful. All seminars are free to attend and a complimentary continental breakfast is provided. Further details are available here.

Simpson Wreford Charity Karting Night - The Results
All the teams were gathered at the Lakeside Karting Raceway for the 2 hour endurance race, it had been raining much of the day and the track was very wet – should make interesting racing!
All the teams were very generous with their charitable donations with the total fund being £1,020, we decided to split it 60/30/10 for the top 3 teams.
The race was driven relatively clean by all drivers although there were a few minor racing incidents, partly caused by the wet track, after 2 hours of intense racing the results were:-
1st – Kamikaze Racers - £612 to The S.A.M. Fund
2nd – Hockley Hot Rods - £306 to Little Havens Hospice
3rd – The Wacky Racers - £102 to The S.A.M. Fund
I believe everyone who came thoroughly enjoyed themselves, thanks to everyone who attended and hopefully we can do it again next year.
Simpson Wreford Charity Karting Night
When: 1st April 2010 at 7pm
Where: Lakeside Karting Raceway, Thurrock, Essex
Cost: £161 per team of 4 or 5 drivers plus a charitable donation
We held this event last year and raised £300 for the winning teams chosen charity which was RNLI.
This year we hope the event is bigger and better, the track we have chosen is longer and the karts are much faster. So this is your chance for you and your employees to drive in a Le Mans style 2hr endurance race. The tops 3 teams will each receive a trophy and the money raised will go to the winning teams chosen charity.
Last year one of our Simpson Wreford teams came second and got the fastest lap - if you think you can beat us then have a look at the finer details and entry form here.
